Amanaska Yoga Online Course:
Teachings & Sutras, Content, Structure, Tenor.

‘Amanaska Yoga’ is Sankara’s insightful understanding and critical commentary on a certain class of profound religious teachings, that are indispensable to the inner life of seekers, when they have turned inward. Essentially, it is sourced in the religious Teachings on ‘Meditative self - Knowing’ of the illustrious World Teacher Sri.J.Krishnamurti. In lesser measure, it is also sourced, in the Hindu Advaitic tradition (Self-Realization), represented by such illustrious Sages as Sri. Adi Sankaracharya, Sri. Ramana Maharshi, Sri. Nisargadatta Maharaj and by a number of kindred ancient Hindu Texts and Teachings.

Amanaska Yoga. Start with Your self.

Contemplate this mysterious Plexus Motion in the context of self, and the Wholeness of Life.

The Amanaska Yoga Course, starts with You.

Understanding your self, at a much deeper level, leads to a series of insights and total transformation through the discovery of your spiritual core.

The outcome is lasting mental peace, improved relationships, and a joyful feeling in day to day life.

Why Amanaska Yoga?

  • The Fastest Path. Amanaska yoga is the fastest path through the field of your Consciousness to Awareness country – where all ‘separateness’ dissolves. That is the end of suffering.

  • Unique process of Inner Awakening. The inner workings of your mind are brought into sharp focus – suddenly. You are surprised and startled, after you discover things about your self that lay deeply hidden till now.

  • Ending of Mental Suffering and Sorrow. Suffering will no longer have its vice like grip on you. The complete release from suffering is like release from the force of gravity. The sense of freedom is the ultimate experience.

  • Self Discovery. The process of self discovery happens through observing and questioning our own thoughts, words, actions. This then leads us to finding who we really are and discovering our true potential.

Profile of the Teacher, Sri. Sankara Bhagavadpada

“Sometime in 1972, a year after I joined as a research scholar in the department of theoretical physics, at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai; the self-image I had ambitiously created for myself over the previous five years - as someone who had a passion for theoretical physics research – was shattered by certain incidents. As the self alone is the sole engine that drives life, with the cessation of the activity of that self and its goals, I was thrown into a psychological crisis, that I did not know how to resolve.

“My late mother had, since she was five, a life-long soul connection to the world teacher, Sri. J. Krishnamurti(she was a pupil of the Rishi Valley School in India, which was founded by the world teacher). I also had a spiritually precocious philosopher-friend, who showed an extraordinary understanding of Krishnamurti’s teachings at that time. Fortunately, because of my deep faith in both of them, I imbibed the initiation coming from both of them - into the deeper waters of Krishnamurti’s teachings, two years prior to the crisis. But the internalization of the teachings did not happen then.

“My crisis drove me to turn inward(as I was studying the teachings), and I started watching how the broken self was still working! As a result of this uninterrupted choiceless awareness of the self and its ways, for six months, there happened without my ever wishing for it, a sudden silencing and calming of the self. This culminated in ‘dying’ and a ‘rebirth’ thereafter into a state of innocence and aloneness. My life changed radically, but the peculiar passion for theoretical physics, for ‘contemplation’, and for Krishnamurti’s teachings was still alive, but without the former self-centered ambition driving it; so that my doctoral research work could be completed in 1979-with some natural delay.

“I also worked as a researcher at the Goethe University in Frankfurt as an Alexander-Von-Humboldt post-doctoral research fellow. In Sept 1982, I returned to India and though I was appointed as the principal of one of the Krishnamurti schools near Bangalore; because of my fierce independence and convictions, I could not work under the authority of my bosses, the Krishnamurti Foundation members in Madras. So, after a short tenure of six months, that chapter ended. Though I was in this way separated from a Krishnamurti school and the Krishnamurti Foundation India(KFI); I wish to emphasize that my soul anchorage to both Krishnamurti, the man, as well as to the teachings did not suffer any perturbation in the least.
Between 1984-2000, I served my philosopher friend as one of the founding Acharyas-to help him build his own spiritual mission.

Amanaska Yoga the Online Course that you see here is my consolidated understanding of Krishnamurti’s teachings, which commenced in 1972 and then again in 1983…

The world teacher Sri. J. Krishnamurti’s teachings were not enough for me to understand what had happened to me in 1972. It is only after studying the Hindu scriptures, the Bhagavad Gita and Adi Shankaracharya’s works and the Upanishads that I secured a crystal-clear understanding of where ‘immersion in Krishnamurti’ leads.

My published books are: ‘Sri. Ramana Maharshi’s Moksha’ (2008), published by Yogi Impressions Books Pvt. Ltd and ‘Self-Realization through self-Knowing’ (2016), published by the same publisher. I have been teaching and offering consultations: In Vedic astrology, and for the inner life, for the last 22 years.

In 2011, along with Dr. Prema Shanker(my wife), Ms. Gayatri Shanker (my daughter), Sri. Kannan Subramanian (associate for 30 years), Sri. Sambasiva Ramanananda (associate for 30 years) and Ms, Devika Dorai(associate since 2011); I founded the Tat Tvam Asi Charitable Trust. In Nov 2021, in partnership with a very experienced senior consultant for Online Courses, Sri. Tuhin Chowdhury, Amanaska Research LLP, was created as an E-learning venture for creating Online Courses for spiritual education on the Internet. In March 2023, as Sri. Tuhin Chowdhury, after completing the initial project successfully, resigned as a partner. To continue and complete my life’s work, I inducted my two family members, Dr. Prema Shanker and Ms. Gayatri Shanker, into Amanaska Research LLP as partners.”

Collaboration with Sri. Ricardo Bravo

In 2023, Ricardo Bravo (Ricardoji), a Latin American Life-Coach,  not only undertook to Translate, the entire Amanaska Yoga Online Course into Spanish; he also Introduced, through Amanaska Yoga, the World Teacher, Sri. J. Krishnamurti’s ‘Inward Flowering through self-Knowing’, to a Large Number of Genuine Seekers in Latin America.

Sri. Ricardoji is an inspired and brilliant life-coach, especially in Hindu spiritual disciplines of knowledge from Santiago(Chile) & Buenos Aires (Argentina). He and Sri. Sankaraji(Dr. Sankara Bhagavadpada) have been collaborating since 2011, in both Vedic Astrology as well as in field of the Inner Life (known variously as Atma Jnana, ‘Tat Tvam Asi’ Meditations and ‘Dharma & Moksha’).

Sri. Ricardoji invited Sri. Sankaraji and Sri. Kannanji(2011-2012) and subsequently, invited Sri. Sankaraji and his wife, Dr. Prema Shanker (2013-2017) to several Latin American countries: Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay. In 2016, Sri. Ricardoji also brought a group of 8 good seekers from Spain and four Latin American countries to an Intl Retreat, held for 7 days, at Le Pondy, in the outskirts of Pondicherry in South India.

From 2011-2017, Sri. Ricardoji and Sri. Sankaraji jointly offered very many Jyotish consultations in Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay. Sri. Ricardoji - who has the gift of spontaneous ‘psychic translation’ from English to Spanish - made Sri. Sankaraji’s work in Amanaska Yoga, as well as in Jyotish, available to a large number of genuine seekers, in these Spanish speaking countries.

Sri. Ricardoji learnt both spiritual disciplines from Sri. Sankaraji very quickly and with ‘missionary zeal’ and like a pioneering teacher, took this work into the Spanish world. They have also jointly offered week-end Retreats in self-Knowing in Santiago, Punta-Del-Este(in Uruguay), Mexico City (Mexico), Brazilia(Brazil), over those years mentioned above. Now, Sri. Ricardoji has introduced the Spanish version of Amanaska Yoga Online Course to excellent seekers who speak for the most part only Spanish. In this way, Sri. Ricardoji has done yeomen service to Sri. Sankaraji’s life-time work and also to Amanaska Yoga, in particular. In his translation work of the Amanaska Yoga Online Course(consisting of 120 Lessons), he is being assisted by two competent assistant translators, Mr. Gabriel Bravo and Ms. Monica Streu. A particular word in any language often has many meanings. So too, ‘Amanaska Yoga’, as you will see below, has three distinct meanings.

  • Amanaska Yoga as my Commentary on the lifetime work of the world teacher, Sri. J. Krishnamurti.

Here, we may note that it is the customary practice in all societies that when something in the nature of a revolutionary paradigm-shift, has happened in any field - be it in politics, science, technology, religion, art or literature – immediately in the wake of that revolutionary shift, many writers, critics, commentators and thinkers feel called upon to comment on these developments, thereby intending to draw humanity’s attention to some gigantic leap which may have happened in that society, and in our human understanding of some important field therein. My commentary on the lifetime writings, books of Sri. J. Krishnamurti may be best seen in the above light.

  • Structure, Content & Tenor of the Amanaska Yoga Course:

As the very first example of such a commentary, I have created an online course, bearing the same name, namely, Amanaska Yoga. This online course is in the form of 120 lessons, wherein every lesson has taken the form of my commentary on a specific case study, appearing as an independent piece in the published writings of the world teacher, either in the form of a short chapter, or even as a section within a given chapter.

  • The Comprehensive Meaning of Amanaska Yoga:

I have also used the term ‘Amanaska Yoga’ to describe the full range of my work in the Hindu spiritual spheres of dharma & moksha, over the last four decades (1983-2023), and this also includes my Vedic astrological work, which has taken the form of some 200 lessons so far, and a commensurate number of unpublished consultations. Only some fifty percent of this astrological work was available to students, the first time I created these lessons as case studies, and this goes way back to 2011.

An Introduction to Amanaska Yoga in the form of Questions and Answers.

  • How is Amanaska Yoga, different from Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, Dhyana Yoga or Kundalini Yoga?

Yoga is a generic term in the ancient religious and spiritual traditions of Hindu India. It implies ending the separation between the individual Jivatma (self) and the Divine (Paramatma). And this implies discovering our unity with the Divine. However, Amanaska Yoga is centred on self-Knowing (the Master Sri. J. Krishnamurti’s life time Teachings), as the way to end sorrow. It is based on inner enquiry and understanding of the human self. The Upanishads are based on enquiry into the Self (Paramatma) [Jnana Yoga], while the Master J. Krishnamurti’s self- Knowing is new to all the religions, it is understanding the human self, which results in awakening of Intelligence, freedom, creativity, perennial clarity, fulfilment and enduring well-being.

  • Who would be the ideal Seekers, who will vastly benefit from Amanaska Yoga?

Three categories of people will vastly benefit. Firstly ‘seekers’ and yogis (any age). Secondly (any age), those who are confused, lifeless and suffering - because of misfortunes in life. Thirdly, those who have finished with their material quests, because of chronological maturity (60 or 65 yrs of age) and now have the energy to enquire into the meaning and purpose of life, God? [Many more categories of people, mentioned elsewhere in greater detail]

  • What is the general tenor of Amanaska Yoga?

Importantly, as Amanaska Yoga is an inspired work, imbued with deep feeling and devotion, penetrative enquiry, dedication, learning, dialogue and understanding- centred; it transmits these very moods and inclinations, to the seekers themselves, thereby elevating the seekers through its profoundly inspirational character, to a loftier plane of awareness, feeling and insight. After the seeker has turned inward, ‘Meditative self-Knowing’ happens more easily and always without effort. Life in the loftier plane can however become a reality, only when the seekers themselves turn inward intelligently, and with dedication and honesty. Throughout this Course, seekers are reminded that they alone have the master key in their possession-not their gods, their teachers, or their religious institutions and religious authorities. However, we also recognize that many seekers may come to Amanaska Yoga, not as atheists, but as people of faith, with a particular anchorage to a Guru, Master, or a Deity. Honestly, Amanaska Yoga will become fruitful only when the traditional anchorage to a Guru, Master, or Deity has not been fulfilling for that seeker. In other words, discontent is essential for embarking on this inner journey.

  • What is the Structure of the Online Immersive Course, Amanaska Yoga (‘Meditative self-Knowing’)?

The whole Online Immersive Course consists of Ten Part (Modules)s, so it will be more convenient for us to visualize each progressive Part (Module) as an independent ‘Course’, in a certain series of ‘Courses’. This way, each of the Ten Parts (Modules), being smaller, will be completed in shorter time periods. And this will give the learners and seekers, the much-needed sense of encouragement, fulfilment and progressive development in their learning and flowering. Moreover, each Part (Module) is further subdivided into several Sections (or Lessons), thus enhancing efficiency through incremental learning. Each Section serves as a relatively independent Lesson in Amanaska Yoga.

  • Why have you qualified the Online Course by the adjective, ‘Immersive’?

You will agree that this is not an entirely theoretical Course in academic learning. In fact, each of the Ten Parts (Modules), include many contemplative and devotional Meditations in self-Knowing. Thus, the complete set of Ten Parts (Modules) cover very many Meditations in self-Knowing. Meditations are immersive, so this is one justification for the adjective. But quite apart from these Meditations, the entire Course also calls for undistracted attention, deep reflection, learning, being in ‘solitude’, all of which are so necessary to learn any discipline deeply and profoundly. So, the tenor of the ‘Courses’ is also serious, contemplative, much like being in an Ashram, or in a religious or spiritual Retreat, where sensory-distraction is voluntarily renounced, because one has an abiding interest in the field of study. However, the field of study is not an academic discipline, but the self, who we really are, in our day to day life. Thus, ‘immersive’ is really, quite appropriate.

  • Are there Illustrative Examples throughout Amanaska Yoga?

Indeed, these occur, almost in every Section (Lesson), in each Part (Module)-not hypothetical examples but case studies drawn from the dialogues of the world teacher Sri. J. Krishnamurti with men and women in our society. That way, these case studies reflect our own day to day life.

  • Are there Questions for each of the Lessons in Amanaska Yoga?

Indeed, in every Section (Lesson), in each Part (Module), you could think for yourself, when you attempt to answer these Questions from your own original point of view. Internalization can happen only through the whole process of Questions and self-discovered Answers. We have ensured that you are not overburdened with too many questions.

  • What are the Contents of the Amanaska Yoga Online Course?

Whether you study geography, biology, anatomy, or mathematics, you always proceed in a step by step fashion, always building on the previous step, so that the progressive set of lessons, form a sequentially and logically well-connected system. The same kind of logic is also used here-start with the fundamental building blocks (sutras or principles), then expand and enrich, so that the whole field is covered. The Course is cast in Ten Parts (Modules). The Themes/Content are roughly what appears below. Part I: Through Meditative self-Knowing, awakening to sorrow and the dissolution of it. Jiva (self) & Atma; Artha & Kama. Dharma & Moksha. Part II: By Being the Atma, to Identify, to Meditatively Observe, Understand the self (Jiva). ‘Anatomy’ of Consciousness: Feelings (Manas), Intellect (Buddhi), Ahankara (self), Chitta (‘Moving Sakti’). ‘What is’, the life-context, in which the self, manifests. Part III: By Being the Atma, Meditative Understanding of the self, Happens: Examples of ‘what is’. How to Awaken to ‘what is’? Jiva (self)’s Superficiality. Nuances of self-Knowing. Part IV: By Being the Atma (i.e.; through Meditative self-Knowing’), ‘Taming and Calming’ of the self, Happens. Part V: By Being the Atma, Deeper Meditative Immersion’ in what is and self-Knowing. ‘Living Out’ our ‘Amphibious’ Nature. Part VI: Through Meditative self-Knowing, Understanding Sexual Problems, and the Problem of Ambition and its Fulfilment. Part VII: Through Meditative self-Knowing, after the Silencing of the self, the ‘Awakening of Intelligence’ Happens. Part VIII: A: Aberrant & Sterile Solutions to the Problem of Suffering. B: Discovering Parabrahma (Unmanifest Divine) and His AllMerciful Nature (‘Karunakara’) Part IX: The Culmination of Meditative self-Knowing: You discover an invisible two-way intimate bond with Parabrahma, the Unmanifest Divine - the essence of ‘Tat Tvam Asi’ (‘That’ Thou Art’). This Culmination is Self-Realization. Part X: Conclusion and Summing Up. ‘Taking Stock’ of Nine Parts of ‘Amanaska Yoga’ (Meditative self-Knowing) and Summing Up. The Flowering of the ‘New Life’.

  • What is the Structure of each Lesson, which is the Section, within any Given Part (Module)?

Each Section is one Lesson. Every Lesson will come to you as a Video teaching. Sometimes as an Audio teaching, with the face of the teacher not visible. Then there will be provided a One Note Doc in pdf format which is the teacher’s preparatory material for the Lesson. In addition, there will be a Transcribed and Edited MS Doc, which is the script form of the Audio File which conveys the teaching. Sometimes Questions are posed in the One Note Document, and it will be common for you to see metaphors mythic images and sutras, as an integral part of the teaching in each Lesson. It is advisable to proceed with the Online Course, Lesson by Lesson. This may take anything from half an hour, to 90 mts and once such a Lesson has been completed, you can see for yourself, how much of the canvas-the larger picture-is revealing itself to you. The content of each such Lesson is sourced in one of the writings/books of the world teacher, Sri. J. Krishnamurti. In these works, we meet with amazing dialogues and conversations, the world teacher is having with ordinary and extraordinary men and women drawn from various walks of life-men and women like us. We not only present verbatim these dialogues of the Master from his original writings, but we also comment on them with a view to bring them more into relief, challenge the views presented therein and then ask the scholars and students to explore further, to secure their own original insights. Very often you will see it reiterated that each Lesson must progress systematically through three phases. Firstly, the content of each lesson must be intellectually grasped; secondly, one must feel the truth of the sutras enshrined therein, emotionally vibrate with them. Thirdly and most importantly, one must apply all this learning, these sutras (aphorisms, principles) to their day to day lives.

Who is Sri. J. Krishnamurti?

J. Krishnamurti(1895-1986) was born of Indian parents, educated in England, and gave talks around the world. He claimed allegiance, to no caste, nationality, or religion and was bound by no tradition.
